Favorite Cookie [021-030]

Lime Meltaways

Hello everyone! It's that time again. Get used to it, because we have about 14 more of these (oh dear god, what have I gotten myself into?!). Here are the past 10 recipes I've baked, in order of best to not-so-best:

Lime Meltaways

1st place (Blue Ribbon!)
: Lime Meltaways
So after much thought, I found that these were my favorite cookies of this round mainly because of their unusual flavor. They are strongly citrusy, and have a nice, light bite to them. Although they aren't that beautiful, they make up for it in their tastiness! And they really melt in your mouth, which makes your fans OOH and AHH as they eat them.

Peanut Butter-Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies

It might be my chocolate-peanut butter bias speaking, but I really, really liked these cookies--especially after I let them sit for a day after baking. They really improve with age, and have a nice buttery flavor in them. The oatmeal in them can give you an excuse to pretend they are ever so slightly healthful (don't kid yourself!).

Rosemary Butter Cookies 1

Although I kind of screwed these up by sanding them with the wrong type of sugar, they were really interesting and dainty. They're perfect to bring to a party because not only does the dough produce a bunch of bite-size cookies perfect for snacking, but people will be impressed with your fancy, refined palette. Serve with tea, and you're one step closer to living out a Jane Austen novel in real life!

Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

This is a prime example of how Martha without fail nails every classic recipe, to a T. These are the quintessential Oatmeal Raisin cookies, but with the inclusion of toasted wheat germ, they have a great hearty crunch to them. No more store-bought, homogeneously soft and squishy clone-cookies! And if you add some sour cherries you'll really be on your a-game.

Striped Icebox Cookies

What started as a lame Harry Potter-themed cookie actually turned out quite magical (HAHA! I'm really sorry, I have a terrible enthusiasm for awful, cringe-inducing puns). Not only are these very fancy looking while still being rather simple to assemble, but they have a great texture thanks to the cornmeal in the dough contrasting with the chewy, fruity-tart filling.

Amaretti Crisps

6th place: Amaretti Crisps
Now, these don't actually have any Amaretto in them, but they are a truly almondy cookie--perfect for any almond lover. However, they weren't as light and airy as I had hoped (this might have been my fault because of my clumsiness--see entry for more embarrassing details), and I'm not such a huge fan of using pastry tubes. But if that's your thing, these are really fun cookies!

These cookies, even though I screwed them up by adding way too much cream, were quite tasty, but nothing totally exceptional. Because of my little mishap, they turned out more like scones--which pleased my dad to no end, but made me a little disappointed that I couldn't know what they were supposed to taste like. If you bake them correctly, tell me what you think of them!

Chocolate Crackle Cookie, Bitten

Yes, yes, another recipe that I messed up, but I honestly think that even if I had made these perfectly, they just weren't that interesting. Because I (again!) added too much milk by accident, they turned out more like brownie bites, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. But even still, they were just pretty standard soft chocolate cookies. Yummy, but nothing I haven't had before.

Decorated cookies

9th place: Sugar Cookies
Maybe these don't deserve second to last place, because they were actually quite perfect sugar cookies, but I'm just not that huge of a fan of sugar cookies in the first place. Yeah, having just wrote that, I realize that my rating system is quite flawed, but whatever--sue me. Anyway, if you are looking for a great sugar cookie to decorate, this would be your recipe. A no-frills, crisp and crunchy sugar cookie!

Pistachio Lemon Drops

I'm not gonna lie: these deserve last place. I really didn't like them! They were way, way, way too sugary sweet and because the sugar called for is brown sugar, they were also sticky and gummy. If they were super beautiful I might give them some credit, but they were pretty ugg too, so deductions for that! They really need a lot more lemon and a lot less sugar to be at all tasty.

****

So that's that! If you've baked any of these and have a differing opinion, I'd love to hear it. Now, onto some more recipes...I'm still way behind my ECC (Estimated Cookie Count), so less type more bake! Ciao, friends!

I've made the lime meltaways just this past xmas. My mom and I LOVED them just because they really did melt in your mouth. We loved the citrus taste and found them light and delicious. I can certainly see why you would rate them #1!!
